Research Summary on Natural Learning

80% of learning does not take place in a formal "Training" environment!
|
In 2001 a major piece of Wadenhoe research: "Auditing Natural Learning" was completed by Dr. Roger Stuart. Since then we have been regularly updating this research, but recent results show that, despite a very challenging business environment, many organisations are still a long way from capitalising on "Natural" Learning.
"Auditing Natural Learning" is a major piece of research that highlights how people can learn and develop outside of formal training courses. It is based on data collected from middle and senior level managers, and provides significant insights into what organisations can do to create an informal learning and development culture.
The updated outputs from this work indicate that there are still four major areas where "Natural" Learning can be helped or hindered. Outcomes from the detailed analysis can help organisations and managers to answer these key questions:
- How can we overcome the organisational, team and individual blocks and barriers to learning?
- How do we energise and engage our people in learning?
- How can we move learning from "Passive" to "Active"
- How can we accelerate learning by helping people to create a wide-ranging helper network?
Apart from the obvious savings in training costs, focusing on these areas and capitalising on the 80% requires Minimum Intervention
to the day job and delivers Maximum Impact for individuals, teams and the organisation.
